Death by Sudoku by Kaye Morgan

“Maiden’s Bay is a small, scenic town on the Oregon Coast where citizens get their number fix thanks to Liza Kelly -Sudoku Maven with the Oregon Daily. Her challenging puzzles sharpen the mind, and her deductive skills unravel even the most enigmatic clues. Liza enters a Sudoku tournament in which her old friend and competitor turns up dead. Now, she must think outside the boxes to find a murderer.”

Cute cozy mystery. I’ll definitely read more of the series. If you are looking for sudoku puzzles, this is not the book for you! There are only a handful of them in the book. Overall an enjoyable read.

Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum

“For fifty years, Anna Schlemmer has refused to talk about her life in Germany during World War II. Her daughter, Trudy, was only three when she and her mother were liberated by an American soldier and went to live with him in Minnesota. Trudy’s sole evidence of the past is an old photograph: a family portrait showing Anna, Trudy, and a Nazi officer, the Obersturmführer of Buchenwald. Driven by the guilt of her heritage, Trudy, now a professor of German history, begins investigating the past and finally unearths the heartbreaking truth of her mother’s life. Combining a passionate, doomed love story, a vivid evocation of life during the war, and a poignant mother-daughter drama, Those Who Save Us is a profound exploration of what we endure to survive and the legacy of shame.”

Phenomenal story! It keeps you riveted from the first page, waiting to see what will happen next! One of my favorite books of the year – highly recommended!

Wendy tagged me!!

Here are the rules: I am going to list three categories of books. 3 MUST Read Books, 3 Keep Your Eyes on These, and 3 Look For These Soon. Keeping with the theme, I am going to tag at least 3 bloggers. They should put these same lists on their blog but SUBTRACT one book from each list and ADD one of their own. Then they should tag at least 3 more bloggers. It will be fun to see how the lists change as they go around the blogosphere. Please come back to this post and leave a comment so I can see how the lists are changing.Since this is Book Buzz…please keep your lists to titles released in 2007-2009.

A Tisket, a Tasket, a Fancy Stolen Casket by Fran Rizer

Mortuary cosmetologist Calamine “Callie” Parrish likes to end her days in a relaxing way – with a Moon Pie, an episode of Six Feet Under, and a few chapters in one of her mystery novels. Right now she’s putting in overtime at the undertaker’s.

When the body of up and coming car dealer Bobby Saxon comes into Middleton’s Mortuary with a hypodermic needle hidden in his neck, Callie realizes there’s a killer on the loose trying to bury deadly crimes. With a list of suspects that includes Bobby’s dueling ex-wives, rival car dealers, and even her own boss, Callie must unearth the culprit – or she might be next. Callie’s got a knack for making the dead look their best, but no amount of concealer can cover up murder…”

I have mixed thoughts about this book. I got annoyed really fast with the number of “Puh-leeze”, “Buh-leeve Me” and “Ex-cuuse Me”‘s in this book. That and the “kindergarten cussing” was just a bit over the top for my taste. Overall, it’s a cute story, but I don’t know if I’ll take the time to read the rest of the series.
