Review: Wifey by Judy Blume

Wifey
Author:  Judy Blume

Book Description:

With more than four million copies sold, Wifey is Judy Blume’s hilarious, moving tale of a woman who trades in her conventional wifely duties for her wildest fantasies-and learns a lot about life along the way.

Sandy Pressman is a nice suburban wife whose boredom is getting the best of her. She could be making friends at the club, like her husband keeps encouraging her to do.

Or working on her golf game.

Or getting her hair done.

But for some reason, these things don’t interest her as much as the naked man on the motorcycle…

My Thoughts:

Uhhh….wow!  I loved Judy Blume as a kid, so I was curious about her adult novel, Wifey.  This is a very adult-oriented novel about a sexually frustrated woman in the late 60s/early 70s (think Desperate Housewives).  Sex is pretty much the main focus of the novel.  Wifey is unable to have a decent conversation with her husband about their sex life, so she spends much of her time daydreaming about other men  There are some pretty explicit scenes.  This isn’t your light and fluffy romance novel.  Overall I liked it, but be forewarned that this isn’t the Judy Blume you knew as a kid!

I wouldn't classify it as erotica, but it's pretty graphic at times…

Jenny – me, too! I finally got around to it because of D.G.'s PBS reading challenge!!

  4. Book Chick City says:

I didn't know Judy Blume wrote adult books – I loved her as a kid, but maybe it's best not to ruin my memories of this author…

  5. Jennifer says:

Book Chick – I know! It's definitely not what I was expecting!! I'm glad I read it, but it was far removed from the cute stories that I loved as a kid!

  6. Anna says:

I've owned this one plus Smart Women for years, but I haven't read them yet. I loved Judy Blume as a kid, and I'm looking forward to reading this one and seeing a different side to her. Thanks for the review!–AnnaDiary of an Eccentric
