Quick Update

Hi everyone! I just wanted to leave a quick note on my blog to let you all know what is going on with me. I’m taking a bit of a blogging “break” at the moment. I’ll still be posting things, but I am in a major reading slump right now (I haven’t finished a book in 3 weeks!!), so there have not been any reviews for me to entice you with lately. I apologize for that! Because of this, I have closed up my REVIEW REQUEST form until further notice. Due to the volume of review books I currently have and the funk I am in, I don’t want to take on any more commitments that I don’t feel I can handle. The books I have requested, I will still honor, so don’t worry about those! And I may still accept one here or there if I am really coveting it, but most I will have to deny and I apologize for that.

The Hop will still be here and I’m sure I’ll still have giveaways. I’ll try to think up some content to entertain you with until I actually finish a book to review for you! LOL!

Thanks all for your understanding. I know we all have these down times in our reading, so I’m hoping it won’t last too long!

Take care!
Jen

Book Blogger Hop: October 29 – Nov 1, 2010

Book Blogger Hop
Grab the Logo!

In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word!  This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books!  It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs to read!  So, grab the logo, post about the Hop on your blog, and start HOPPING through the list of blogs that are posted in the Linky list below!!

The Hop lasts Friday-Monday every week, so if you don’t have time to Hop today, come back later and join the fun!  This is a weekly event!  And stop back throughout the weekend to see all the new blogs that are added!  We get over 200 links every week!!

RULES:

Your blog should have content related to books, including, but not limited to book reviews.

1.  Enter your book blog link in the Linky List below
In your link, please state the main genre that you review:  eclectic, contemp. fiction, ya, paranormal, mystery, non-fiction, etc.

Please do not list every genre you review – if you are review a variety, please put eclectic!  The Hop gets jumbled up if the title is too long, so please limit to one genre.  I will be limiting the number of characters in the title to ensure the Hop doesn’t look messy!  Thank you!

Example:  Crazy-for-Books (adult fiction)

NOTE:   You no longer have to enter the length of time you’ve been blogging, but do let us know if this is your first time hopping with us!

2. Post about the Hop on your blog.  Spread the word about the book party!  The more the merrier!  In your blog post, answer the following question (new question each week!).  If you have a suggestion for a future HOP question, click here to fill out the form!  Thanks!

“What is the one bookish thing you would love to have, no matter the cost?”

My answer:  My pie-in-the-sky bookish dream is to remodel the upstairs space in my house so I can turn one of my downstairs rooms into my personal library with floor-to-ceiling bookcases that stretch across every wall. I would have big comfy chairs and a sofa that you can just sink right into. No televisions or computers allowed! ;)

3.  Visit other blogs in the Linky List!  Make new friends!  Follow new book bloggers!  Talk about books!  Rave about authors!  Take the time to make a quality visit!  Check out other posts and content, make a new friend!  Don’t randomly follow someone if you never intend on actually following them!  No spamming please!  (Please do not leave your link and not visit other blogs – it’s just not cool and not in the spirit of the Hop!)

And just as an FYI – this event is not something you should feel that you have to participate in every week.  If you want to join in and link up once a month, GREAT!  It’s up to you how often you participate!

So, have fun HOPPING and enjoy your BOOK PARTY weekend!!!

The NOOKColor!

So, the time has finally arrived – a color e-reader will soon be shipping from Barnes & Noble.  The NOOKColor is an Android-based platform that boasts a 7 inch VividView color touch screen with an extra-wide viewing screen that is backlit, making it easy to read, day and night.  View your material in portrait or landscape modes, too!

The NOOKColor is also integrated with social media, including Facebook and Twitter.  Import all of your Google contacts to stay connected with your friends, share your favorite lines or recommend books!  Update your reading status with your friends – right from the page you are reading!
The NOOKColor also offers more personalization with the ability to organize your home screen with your favorite books or newspapers/magazines.  You can also organize your personal e-book library.  Keep track of your mysteries, memoirs, romances, books read this year, or whatever other ways you want to personalize your reading – all in your device!
The NOOKColor retains the ability to upload your own photos to use on your home screen, but now they will be in vivid color instead of black and white!  Also, upload your favorite tunes to listen to while you are reading or just listen to Pandora internet radio!  You can also download audiobooks to listen to on the go!
The NOOKColor contains the QuickOffice software so you have the ability to view Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, as well as ePUB, PDF, JPG, among MANY other file types.  Click HERE and scroll to the bottom of the page for a full list.
With 8GB of built-in memory – you can hold up to 6,000 books on the device.  Need more room?  There is a slot for a micro-SD card for extra space.
Read for 8 hours without recharging the batters (with the wireless feature turned off.  When the wireless on, it is always searching for a network and it kills the battery life.  Ask me – I know!  LOL).
Speaking of Wi-fi – the NOOKColor has built-in Wi-fi, so you can surf the web, check your e-mail, read my blog, or search Google – all right from the device!
What will this mean for the e-ink technology?  Will it be as easy to read on this new device?  I’m not sure.  Ask me again in about a month when my NOOKColor arrives.  Yes, I couldn’t help myself.  I pre-ordered one!  I love my NOOK, so I was beyond excited when I laid my eyes on the NOOKColor.  I’ll be sure to give you a full review when I get my hands on it next month!
The only thing I wish these companies would do is give us customers who already own the technology a discount to upgrade to the new model.  I feel like I just got my regular Nook and it’s already outdated.  I paid $250 for it and it’s already marked down to $139 and now we have the NOOKColor!  The technology is just moving so fast and I love it, but my pocketbook can’t keep up!  Luckily I had some BN gift certificates to put toward this purchase or I would not have been able to afford it.  It is $249.
So, my NOOKColor will hopefully ship around November 19 and I will be counting down the days until I can get my hands on it.  What do you think of a color e-reader?  Have you pre-ordered this device?  Do you plan to?

This week’s question comes from Becky who blogs at Becky’s Barmy Book Blog:

“Where is your favorite place to read? Curled up on the sofa, in bed, in the garden?”

My answer:  I love to read curled up in my rocking chair recliner with a fluffy blanket and a hot cup of coffee or hot cocoa!  My second favorite place is in my bed, but I have a tendency to fall asleep pretty easily when I read there!
