The NOOKColor!

So, the time has finally arrived – a color e-reader will soon be shipping from Barnes & Noble.  The NOOKColor is an Android-based platform that boasts a 7 inch VividView color touch screen with an extra-wide viewing screen that is backlit, making it easy to read, day and night.  View your material in portrait or landscape modes, too!

The NOOKColor is also integrated with social media, including Facebook and Twitter.  Import all of your Google contacts to stay connected with your friends, share your favorite lines or recommend books!  Update your reading status with your friends – right from the page you are reading!
The NOOKColor also offers more personalization with the ability to organize your home screen with your favorite books or newspapers/magazines.  You can also organize your personal e-book library.  Keep track of your mysteries, memoirs, romances, books read this year, or whatever other ways you want to personalize your reading – all in your device!
The NOOKColor retains the ability to upload your own photos to use on your home screen, but now they will be in vivid color instead of black and white!  Also, upload your favorite tunes to listen to while you are reading or just listen to Pandora internet radio!  You can also download audiobooks to listen to on the go!
The NOOKColor contains the QuickOffice software so you have the ability to view Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, as well as ePUB, PDF, JPG, among MANY other file types.  Click HERE and scroll to the bottom of the page for a full list.
With 8GB of built-in memory – you can hold up to 6,000 books on the device.  Need more room?  There is a slot for a micro-SD card for extra space.
Read for 8 hours without recharging the batters (with the wireless feature turned off.  When the wireless on, it is always searching for a network and it kills the battery life.  Ask me – I know!  LOL).
Speaking of Wi-fi – the NOOKColor has built-in Wi-fi, so you can surf the web, check your e-mail, read my blog, or search Google – all right from the device!
What will this mean for the e-ink technology?  Will it be as easy to read on this new device?  I’m not sure.  Ask me again in about a month when my NOOKColor arrives.  Yes, I couldn’t help myself.  I pre-ordered one!  I love my NOOK, so I was beyond excited when I laid my eyes on the NOOKColor.  I’ll be sure to give you a full review when I get my hands on it next month!
The only thing I wish these companies would do is give us customers who already own the technology a discount to upgrade to the new model.  I feel like I just got my regular Nook and it’s already outdated.  I paid $250 for it and it’s already marked down to $139 and now we have the NOOKColor!  The technology is just moving so fast and I love it, but my pocketbook can’t keep up!  Luckily I had some BN gift certificates to put toward this purchase or I would not have been able to afford it.  It is $249.
So, my NOOKColor will hopefully ship around November 19 and I will be counting down the days until I can get my hands on it.  What do you think of a color e-reader?  Have you pre-ordered this device?  Do you plan to?

For me, I like having the bit of color, so that is why I initially went withthe Nook. It has the color touch-screen at the bottom. I lovetouch-screens! :) Now with a full color version, I am in love and I can'twait to get it! It's all a matter of personal preference, though!

  3. I just got my "old" Nook in July and now this one comes out–UGH!!! Looking forward to your thoughts…..

The color doesn't really hold any extra appeal for me, and I can't even bring myself to spend $150 for the regular one. I think eventually I'll go to an ipad or laptop of some kind, for the added utility.

Don't you hate that? We just can't keep up!!

One good thing is that I know how much my mom wants one now after playing with mine so I'm going to give her my current Nook when my color one comes in! Recycling!! It is practically brand new! LOL

  9. Ahhh! I just saw this in the B&N window a few days ago and I'm so mad. I just bought mine and now they come out with this one! Arghhh. Same thing happened with my Kindle. As soon as I got mine, they came out with the new ones :(

I know what you mean about feeling like your Nook is out dated already. I bought mine as a birthday gift to myself in May and I already want to throw it out and get this NOOK color!!! So bad!! But that beats the purpose of trying to be sustainable. and I so wish we could turn it in and up grade!!*sigh* Let us know how much you love it!Mad Scientist

Thanks doll! Appreciate your time! I'm still leaning toward the nook myself, hopefully granny dishes up enough dough for the color option. ;)

  12. Wow, this sounds incredible! I CANNOT wait to read your review! I've been putting off buying any of these e-reader because I felt they could be so much better…so, I've been waiting.

I started with a B&W Sony Pocket eReader, which I liked–the text is crisp and clear, it's light, and there's no problem reading in direct sunlight. When I later picked up an iPad, I was skeptical about it as a reading device given the relatively low resolution for text, the weight, and the reflective screen. Six months later, I'm buying almost all my books from iBooks and Amazon (they put out a Kindle App for the iPad). I haven't bought a paperback in ages, but I still love the feel (and smell) of a real hardbound classic that's seen some use. I don't think technology will ever be able to replace that. All that is to say that I'm sure that you'll love your new Nook–I look forward to reading about it.

I loved the touch screen option and the color screen at the bottom. Plus itsupports more formats than the Kindle. I live in NY, so I can downloadstuff from the New York Public Library in NYC and put it on my Nook. To myknowledge, the Kindle does not support this format. I could be wrong, though. I haven't read up on the Kindle lately. I like checking oute-books from the NYPL (for free!) and reading them on my Nook. Saves memoney, too! I have no complaints about my Nook. I haven't had any issueswith it at all. When I went on vacation recently, two people that went withme borrowed it and read books on it and now they want one! LOL! I thinkBest Buy sells both Kindles and Nooks, so I'd recommend going in and holdingthem, checking out all the features and deciding what works best for you! Stores like Target and Wal-Mart are selling them too, so they are easilyaccessible now – you can get your hands on them and really check them outwell! Just do your research! E-Mail me if you have any questions!

  16. How exciting. I have a Kindle and love it, I promised myself to only get an upgrade when the covers are in colour, look forward to your review on it.

Stephanie, I know what you mean! I hate to even get this one because I knowthey'll probably come out with a 3G version or something soon after. Youcan never keep up with all the technology they have out there!
