#2012 Direction & (Lack of) Goals :0)

I can’t believe 2012 is nearly here!  Where did 2011 go?

Blogging here at crazy-for-books has been sporadic at best the last couple of months.  I have a new month-old baby nephew (love!), I haven’t been reading as much or as fast (boo!), and, frankly, I haven’t really felt the urge to blog anyway.  I hate posting something just for the sake of posting something.  Puts too much pressure on me.

Plus, my husband got me an iPad2 for Christmas.  Umm..hello.. does anyone actually READ when you can play on one of these things?!  LOL!  I’ve got my Nook and Kindle apps plus the Bluefire Reader app for my Netgalley books (thanks for the tip on that one, Lori!), so I am all set.  Plus a ton of games.  If you have any app recommendations, do let me know.  I have A LOT to learn and will take any tips I can get!  It’s the most awesome gadget ever.  My hubby knows me so well!

But, I digress.

There are going to be some changes to my blog that I want all of you to be aware of.  I will be participating in more Christian fiction/non-fiction book tours and reviews, so my blog content may lean toward that genre more than anything else.  Starting the beginning of January, I will be participating in a blog tour where I will post weekly about a bible study that I will be working through (1 Peter: Finding Encouragement in Troubling Times).  This will occur for about 8 weeks and end the beginning of March.  I will also be reviewing Jen Hatmaker’s new book, 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess, by mid-January.  If you haven’t read anything by Jen Hatmaker, I highly recommend that you do.  I love her books!

I will continue to read my other loves – WWII historical fiction and contemporary/literary fiction (and others thrown in here and there for good measure!).  I am not accepting review books there are due at any particular date (unless I absolutelyhavetoreadthebooklikerightnow) because I am tired of being stressed about reading deadlines.  2012 is my year of stress-free reading.  I’m going to read what I want to read, when I want to read it.  I’m getting back to the way things were before I started blogging – reading for fun and enjoyment – and not on anyone’s time-frame but my own.

Because, there’s one other thing that I’m committing to on this blog.  I’m putting it out here so I have lots of accountability.

2012 is the year I will write my book.

I actually didn’t know I was going to type that sentence that until it just flew out of my fingers (must have been God typing for me because He’s been very clear on the writing a book thing this past year – and I’ve been ignoring it).

The only way this book will get written is if I cut out the reading stress.  All you bloggers know what I’m talking about.  It’s time to focus on my dream.  Because my book will not be written if I keep reading every other author’s work.

I will try to remember to post a monthly update on my progress.  And please tweet me to keep me motivated because I am going to need it.  If you are of the praying type, I am looking for a few people who can commit to praying for me through the writing of this book.  If you think you can help, please e-mail me.  I plan to send out periodic emails with things that you can be praying for as I work my way through the writing process.

Oh, one other thing, CFB is getting a slight makeover!  I thought it was time to change things up a bit, so stay tuned!

Thank you for your support the last 3 1/2 years.  I know things have changed a lot since the beginning, but your blogger has changed tremendously.  I appreciate those of you who have supported me either through blog post comments, emails, Facebook comments, tweets, etc.  You mean so much to me.  I am looking forward to what 2012 brings us!

  1. If you have a library in your area that checks out e-books, get the Overdrive app. Goodread and Library Thing both have apps, and Indiebound, and I think they are for Iphone and Ipad.

    • Yes, I do have a library who loans e-books! Thanks for the tip on Overdrive! I have it on my PC, but never thought about it for my iPad! I got the Goodreads app. I have an LT account, but I don’t use it much at all. I use GR constantly (have it on my android phone, too).

      Thanks for the tips!!

  2. I’ll have to look through my phone and see what apps there are. I have tons of word games. I like the Tetris on there. My favorite that I use a lot (non reading related) is Awesome Note. I use it mainly for to-do lists (for work, home, blog, etc.) but I also have one in there for “diary entries”. I absolutely love that app. I use google calendar so I have the CalenGoo app… that one was expensive but I use it a ton. I use PocketMoney for my “checkbook” (I don’t keep a paper one anymore). I also use overdrive… it’s so easy to download onto there. I use the Barnes and Noble bookstore app a lot too if I am just looking for info about a book.

Good luck with the book!! I still have that on my mind as well, but I don’t think I’m quite ready yet. I want to spent the next year or so consuming some literary fiction (since this year wasn’t so great in reading) and pay more attention to how I want to write. But this could also be an excuse for stalling, LOL.

  3. Goodluck on your goals!!

  4. Good luck with writing your book!!! I’m really looking forward to reading your progress this year. I would be delighted to keep your journey in prayer. :)
