I am participating in a Blog Tour through Kregel Publications for the Bible Study – 1 Peter: Finding Encouragement in Troubling Times by Sue Edwards. Each week from January 15 – March 11, I will be blogging through my experiences with this study, posting my opinions and insights as I learn more about the book of 1 Peter. I’m really excited to be participating in this study and am looking forward to what I learn over the next nine weeks!

About the Book
The letter of 1 Peter was heard by women who knew times like these. This newest addition to the Sue Edwards Inductive Bible Study series digs into 1 Peter and takes a look at the stories of real women–past and present–to teach today’s woman how to stand faithful to God regardless of her trials, however severe.

Week 5 - 1 Peter 3:1-7
First Peter 3:1-7 are verses I go to all the time. I love them. As the wife of a non-believing husband, I strive to live them out on a daily basis. I’m sure I fail more than I succeed, but God is working on me. I know that as a daughter of the Most High King, I fall very short of perfection. But, knowing that Jesus died so that I don’t have to be perfect gives me peace. I can mess up and God will still love me.
So, I strive to live a life that will bring honor to Jesus; so that when my husband and family look at me, they will see a little bit of Jesus in me. Some days I feel like I take two giant steps backward, but when I take that one little step forward, it is an awesome feeling. I don’t know how our world today compares to the days of when Peter lived, but if he was writing to wives about their unbelieving husbands, I have to take comfort in the fact that this problem has existed for a long time. So, I take comfort in Peter’s instructions about living “pure and reverent” lives. It’s so difficult to do, but I strive to do that each and every day.

I feel inspired by your words today, because I have accepted Christ quite recently and yet feel depressed sometimes by all the troubles that seem to come my way. My husband and I are struggling to stay true to the word, more so him than I. But I believe that like you said, we are not perfect and it is only the blood of Christ and the love of God that makes us perfect. We stumble, but yes, we are allowed to stumble to make us true and holy to the word. The knowledge that we are human gives us peace because we know that Christ is there for us.

“Pure and reverent” is always a challenge no matter what or who.
Thanks for sharing!! Whatever world Peter was in, it’s relevant today!!!
