Have you ever experienced that period of blogging where you could not think of one thing to write about?
It feels like I have been in that state of limbo this entire year. My blog consists of some book reviews and the Book Blogger Hop meme. That’s it. If I do think of something to write about, I will do a search and find that 25 other bloggers have already posted on the same topic. Not that my opinion couldn’t add a new perspective, but I always think “This is an awesome idea, Jen! I’m sure no one has written about this yet!”
But, of course, someone has. Darnit!
It seems so difficult to come up with “new” and “fresh” ideas. There are so many bloggers out there and none of us want to be accused of pilfering another blogger’s idea (even unintentionally).
So I have become a bit frozen in my blogging. Not quite sure where to go, but wanting to move somewhere.
Have you ever felt that way? How do you work through it?

Crazy Talk is a resurrected feature here at Crazy-for-Books where I pull something out of the air to talk about and see what you all have to say about it.

I’m right there with you. I’m thinking about adding some different elements to my blog that aren’t so book related to help alleviate this. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how my readers are going to respond to such a change.
It is so hard, Teresa. I’ve thought about doing that, too. It is difficult to strike that balance and know what to do that will make us happy and keep our readers coming back. I hope you find the balance you are seeking as well!
Absolutely! Sometimes I feel that way too. I do reviews and I do some memes. And to top it off, I’m not a fast reader. And sometimes I wish I had another reviewer to help out.
Each time I think of something, I google it to make sure I’m not infringing on anyone…and oh gee…look at that! Guess I wasn’t that original. I’m luck that I live near NY and often have the opportunity to go to signings…and sometimes I feel that’s all my posts are for periods of time.
While I really wish I could come up with the next new blogging idea, meme, or something totally original…I know that these ideas will probably come when I’m not trying to rack my brains.
What I do is try to relax and just enjoy blogging for what it is.
I hope you thaw out soon! : )
I talk about whatever I want. It’s my blog to do with as I please
I try no to infringe and I try to give credit. But if I have an opinion, then it’s my opinion and if I want to share it, then that’s what my blog is for.
i agree with Loni. Thaw out now!!! This is about ‘Books’. We are not open to a lot when trying to keep it about ‘books’ and its a whole lot of us in this book world community. Yes, surprisingly, someone else will have that idea.
You can’t infringe on whats not copyrighted. Infringement does not cover TOPICs or your opinion. There are a lot of meme’s going on with the same idea but a different name.
Stop racking the brain, DO YOU!!! unless it has a copyright icon next to the name, its OPEN.
If it was something you thought of, do it. IF you thought of it and then find out its done already, send the person a note and inform them you had thought of this but you see they did also so you will give them credit when writing or partaking of it on your blog. STOP racking the brain. I see the ice, snow and all beginning to THAW
I’m going to make like Kreskin and read your thoughts, Jen. Unless I miss my guess you originally started this blog because you thought it would be fun.
So why not dedicate your next blog entry to just having fun? We’re writing a blog – not the Dead Sea Scrolls. Try to cut yourself a little slack. Forget about what you might think that you “owe your readers.”. Forget your readers. Do they get every morning, kick the tires of this blog and get the party rolling? Do they brew your coffee? Do they pop your pop tarts?
(insert metaphors into blender and hit frappe)
At the end of the day this is nothing more than a blog. It’s nice to hit them high notes – but REALLY – how significant do you think something that sort of sounds like the sound of a flatulent frog being run over by a clown car really needs to be?
